xTuple ERP 5.0.0-beta and other components are now available

xTuple ERP 5.0.0-beta is now available for download from xTuple.org. Thanks to all who contributed to make this release possible, including Cordeck Building Solutions, Warning Lites, Larry Cartee, Alfredo Martinez, Scott Zuke, Steven Buttgereit, Jim Wirt, Wes Baker, Joel White, and Rebecca Shapiro.

See How to Pilot xTuple ERP+CRM 5.0.0 for detailed help with this significant update. This release includes major changes to CRM functionality and the tax system, including integration with Avalara. There are significant changes to how CRM and tax data are stored in the database, so you may need to update customized scripts, reports, and MetaSQL queries. In addition, the deprecated portions of the Script Toolbox have been removed as previously announced, which may also require script updates. The updatetodb 1.0.0-rc and deprecatedtb 1.0.0-beta extensions can help with finding database objects that need updating for version 5.0 schema compatibility and toolbox deprecation, respectively.

Strict country checking is now required and how countries are stored in the database has been changed. Before upgrading to 5.0.0-alpha or later, you must install fixCountry 5.0.0-rc.3 and migrate the country data.

We have also worked on a number of other components and have published the following extensions for compatibility with xTuple ERP 5.0.0 and pre-releases:

Notes:

  • .gz files for the fixCountry (1.0.0-rc.3), updatetodb (1.0.0-rc), and deprecatedtb (1.0.0-beta) packages have been attached to this announcement. They are also available with the xTuple ERP 5.0.0-beta release files.
  • EDIT: The original Linux build was erroneously built with version 5.5.1 of the Qt Framework when it should have been built with 5.11.2. This causes issues with the xtdesktop extension and possibly other problems. It has been replaced with a new, correct build. (2019-04-17 18:00 UTC)

fixcountry-5.0.0-rc.3.gz (10.7 KB)
updatetodb-1.0.0-rc.gz (6.2 KB)
deprecatedtb-1.0.0-beta.gz (3.8 KB)

EDIT: sourceforge and github links removed (2019-07-12 15:59 UTC)

Can this fixed assets v1.8.5 be used with 4.11.3?
Have a client having some issues getting reports to match and I am hoping there are some fixes…

Phil,

See the fixed assets release notes (free and commercial) and the updated compatibility matrix.

Gil

The compatibility matrix hasn’t been updated for the 5.0 beta or for Fixed Assets 1.8.5, and the Fixed Assets release notes only reference bug fixes. Does that mean that it is backward compatible like 1.8.4 is?

We are attempting to make most packages work for pre/post version 5.0 changes. The Asset packages check compatibility in the Updater application so should prevent issues. Assets 1.8.5 should work for earlier xTuple releases

The Linux build has been replaced with a newer version. See the Notes for details.

A quick note to follow up on Missy’s call for testing…

Those who are familiar with the intricacies of ERP database upgrades, particularly if there have been customizations and/or less-than-pristine data over the years, can appreciate why we are asking everyone to do the pilot testing - at least first - with the demo “toy truck” database.

Candidly, our own experience with upgrading and pilot testing our own internal company database was an eye-opener on this front. I’d love to tell you that xTuple has followed its own best practice preaching in how to make changes to a production system, but, well …

Having said that, we do realize that pilot testing can only be so meaningful with data that’s not your own, and we certainly want to do everything we can to support customers who want to pilot with a BACKUP of their production system, upgraded to 5.0 beta. Happily, assistance with that process is one of the things included with an XTN subscription; for XTN customers, we can take that backup, upgrade it to 5.0 beta, and put the database wherever you’d like (although we’d recommend our Amazon cloud environment, so there’s no impact on your production server).

Please call, drop us a line, or enter a ticket if you’d like to take us up on that! And thank you for your help in testing what is shaping up as a really exciting release!
