xTuple ERP
Version 4.4.1
May 16, 2014

These are the release notes for the 4.4.1 Patch Release. Thanks
to all who contributed to make this release possible.

PLEASE NOTE: Beginning with version 4.4.1, we have introduced a
new naming convention for our upgrade and installation files. The
new convention stems from our unified build process, which now
supports both Desktop and Mobile Web installations. In 4.4.1, you
will see the following new file naming conventions:

OLD                NEW
pb440to441.gz        pb441.gz
dist440to441.gz        dist441.gz
xtmfg-440to441.gz        xtmfg_update441.gz

To summarize:
PostBooks 440 to 441 = pb441.gz
Distribution 440 to 441= dist441.gz
Manufacturing/Enterprise 440 to 441 = dist441.gz & xtmfg_update441.gz

It should also be noted that these upgrades will NOT run on any
database prior to version 4.4.0. You will need to upgrade to AT LEAST
4.4.0 before trying to run the new 4.4.1 patch upgrade packages.

ALSO: Mobile-enabled databases are not supported through the
traditional Desktop update process. Anyone upgrading a mobile-enabled
database should follow the process described here:

As always, please review the xTuple Compatibility Matrix before
upgrading: http://www.xtuple.org/compatibility-matrix.

Hi, Fred:

Are you still experiencing a problem with this? If so, please file a support ticket.

Just to put a little philosophy behind the details of the name change:

Our 4.4 release is a huge milestone for us. It's the first release that has the Qt and Web client running together on the same xTuple Server.

If you're on the new xTuple Server and running both apps, you won't need to worry about these updater packages for core updates. These will all be handled through the xTuple Server. You might still need the updater for extra stand-alone packages, but for core updates (postbooks, "standard/distribution", manufacturing) you'll never again need to worry about these package files.

The other very exciting thing about the way that we're going to be doing core upgrades is that you no longer have to worry about what version you're coming from. There's no more 4.4.0->4.5.1 being any different than 4.5.0->4.5.1. It's just, 4.5.1. And that will take you from ANY* version, up to the version you're trying to get to.

* Asterisk! This new method will only work once you've gotten to 4.4.0. So, use all the traditional methods to get up to 4.4.0. But once you're there, you'll be able to push forward to any version with a single package file. Or, if you're one the xTuple Server, with one click of a button!

No, its fixed now. Thanks Pierce

I am getting this error when I try to access the update to 4.4.1 from the xtuple update server - Does this have something to do with the file name changes?

"Failed: error downloading http://updates.xtuple.com/updates/xtuple-4,4,1-linux-tar.gz"

I ran the 4.4.0 linux client on the 4.4.1 database - It asked me to download the update, and I accepted, then I got the error message

Should I file a bug report for that?
