How to adapt to comply in Australia with ATO requirements

Does the quickstart wizard provide me a simple way to configure xTuple accounts to comply? Is there anyone in Melbourne using xTuple or a partner here? Thanks. Sam

Phil,

I am in Melbourne,

I was away the last couple of days but will be checking emails over the next two days of holidays.

Do let me know if you wish to talk over phone or something.

Regards
Sajeev

Hi Sam,

I am in Melbourne and work with and on xTuple.
The system setup, if done correctly, can handle GST.

Drop me a note with the particular issue you are facing and I can look at it.

Thanks
Sajeev

Sajeev,

Is there a document somewhere which describes how to use the install wizard and create an appropriate Australian setup - including for the GST?

Thanks,

Phil.

Phil,

The reference guide is the available documentation on this topic.
I recognise there is a little bit more to it, in terms of having the correct GL/CoA account(s) for a start, then the setup of the tax structure under Accounting->Tax.
It has to then flow thru to customers, vendors and items.

Although not very relevant but which edition and release version are you on.

Happy to assist if you need a hand.

Sajeev

Sajeev,

I just thought that if there was (a little) extra work to do to get an
Australian GL and GST setup going that there might be a document
somewhere that outlined how to do this. My view is that it should be
part of a standard install (via selecting the country) and people
shouldn’t need to mess around to get the stuff working. I have used SQL
Ledger and Ledger SMB in the past and they worked quite well and suited
my needs: PostgreSQL and browser based - but they are not very well
supported whereas PostBooks looks like it has a lot of users and
support. PB is probably overkill for what I want - which is JUST the
accounting so all the other stuff on the screen is wasted space to me
but I thought I would check it out anyway - but if there is too much
hassle to get the GL and GST working I probably won’t bother.

Thanks,

Phil.

HI Phil,

Apologies I have been offline the last couple of days.

I am not sure I understand or agree with all you say. I would normally not quote this outside of spoken conversation, but to have a smooth and long distance swim, you need to dive in properly! That style of dive is an art you develop personally for yourself using the basic principles.

I think this is no different. It is not too much hassle to set up the system for tax compliance that helps your business keep running smoothly. You are right that postbooks is getting a good following and xTuple's efforts should be appreciated to release a high level of functionality in the open source, low investment area. They have provided the basic principles!

I am open to a phone call with you to better understand your situation.

I believe you are interested and look forward to talking to you. Please send me your phone number and I shall get in touch with you.

Thanks

Sajeev,

Are you in Sydney? Will you be around this weekend?

Thanks,

Phil.

Sajeev,

Sorry I have not gotten back to you earlier - I have been away a couple
of times in the last couple of weeks and things have been hectic. I
would like to have a chat with you about PostBooks - let me know days
and times that suit you over the next week or so. I will be out most of
tomorrow.

Regards,

Phil.
